Description

4-Chlorobenzotrichloride molecular model (C7H4Cl4, CAS 5216-25-1): a free, print-ready ball-and-stick model with the element symbol engraved on every atom, designed for chemistry lessons.

Start with the ring system: 4-Chlorobenzotrichloride has one aromatic 6-membered ring; in total the model carries 15 bonds (9 single and 6 aromatic, drawn in Kekulé form). Counting task: 7 C + 4 H + 4 Cl gives 15 engraved spheres; can the class rebuild the formula C7H4Cl4 from the model alone? Use it when you teach aromaticity and delocalised electrons, as well as organohalogen compounds and carbon-halogen bonds. Natural follow-up models: Benzotrichloride (CAS 98-07-7) and 4-Chlorostyrene (CAS 24991-47-7), close enough in structure for a spot-the-difference task. Team task: with the model in hand, each group marks the four C-Cl bonds, then writes down what they found.

Printing: the STL is in angstrom units - scale it 10x in the slicer (1 angstrom = 10 mm). Use supports under the bonds; PLA works well.
