Assembly video here

This filament spool holder and dry box is designed for a specific type of 4L boxes I found online.

In the pictures are shown the details to make sure the boxes you buy are the ones that fit this design.

This design is non destructive: after removing the lid of the box, just push the round part of the main body through the opening, making sure it lays as flat as possible, held by the round rubber gasket.

There's a practical funnel to add silica gel, and then a cap to close the base.

I designed this so I can see when it's time to replace the desiccant.

You will need 4x608 bearings to complete the assembly, and one round hygrometer.

M3 screws are optional to keep the bearings supports tight, but I never needed to add those in any of my 20 boxes.

When adding the bottom grid or cover, 5 drops of glue are needed on the 5 supports.

Note: make sure the lid is flat in the central part, and if not, use a weight and hot air to remove the distortion these boxes can come with.

Update: This issue was solved by adding the bottom grid, otherwise any movement of the main body/base of the design would get desiccant to go around. The initial idea (partially still valid) was to make the desiccant color visible to monitor when it's time to replace/regenerate it.

I'll complete this project with more details and instructions and for a variant for another slightly different kind of box you can find online.

Costs: I usually track prices if I'm not in a hurry and I calculated the cost of a full dry box (filament, bearings, hygrometer, box) for me was about 10-12โ‚ฌ each.

Both version A and version B are designed to be low profile for maximum room for the spool, so go with the cheapest boxes version you can find at the moment (check the distinctive features from the images gallery)
