Description

After switching to reusable silica gel desiccant for my 3D printing filament, I quickly discovered how messy it can get if you don’t keep it contained. It’s like those little beads have a death wish—they just want to jump!

First, I needed a funnel to pour the used desiccant into a “used” container until I had enough to dry in the oven. Then I needed a scoop to collect it from the drying tray and transfer it back into the “dried” container.

This easy-to-print design includes a funnel and a scoop with a simple snap-on cover to help keep those little jumpers contained.

Stop the mess. Stop the jumpers. Stop spilling the beans.

My favorite silica gel desiccant is available on Amazon in 2, 5, and 10 lb containers. It starts bright orange and turns dark when it reaches about 50–60% of its moisture capacity. At that point, follow the manufacturer’s oven or microwave drying instructions to recharge it for reuse.

Raccoon Engineering has a few models for desiccant use.
