Dreadharvest — The Heart of Halloween

Description

An anatomical heart merges with a sinister jack-o’-lantern in this Gothic Halloween sculpture. Thick arteries rise above its ribbed pumpkin body, while thorned vines curl around narrowed eyes and a jagged grin. Rootlike tendrils anchor it to an ornate pedestal decorated with miniature pumpkins, presenting the strange harvest like a treasured relic.

The first seed was found inside a scarecrow that had begun moving long after its maker died.

A curious gardener planted it beneath his finest pumpkin patch. Throughout the summer, he heard a slow knocking beneath the soil. By autumn, every vine in the garden had turned toward a single fruit—a pumpkin shaped like a human heart, its stem branching into hollow arteries.

He cut a face into its skin.

At the first incision, the knocking stopped. When he finished the mouth, it smiled wider than he had carved.

That night, roots broke through the floor of his cottage and lifted the pumpkin onto an old stone pedestal. The gardener fled before dawn, leaving behind a journal with one final observation:

“The vines are its veins. The patch is its body. I have spent all summer feeding something buried beneath my home.”

Each Halloween, another pumpkin appears at the edge of the abandoned garden.

Each bears the same grin.
