Espresso Dosing Funnel (54mm)

A 54mm espresso dosing funnel with optional magnets to help it stick on to your portafilter.

I got a new Breville espresso machine and was looking around for some accessories I could 3D print. I realized that all the dosing funnels I was finding were either too complex for my liking or would fit in the basket using an internal ring, which I didn't like because it would leave a gap in the grounds when you would take it off. I absolutely loved some of these models but wanted to create something that would be simple, easy to print, and would stick on to the portafilter without needing that inner lip (hopefully while also looking stylish of course).

This is what I came up with! This is currently only for 54mm portafilters and baskets and has been tested for Breville and Sage machines, but I am working on one for 58mm baskets so stay tuned for that. Let me know if you have any requests for other sizes as well!

There are also two versions of this model:

• One with captive magnets that you have to insert by pausing the print, press fitting (with maybe a drop of glue if you think it's too loose) magnets into the holes, then resuming the print. Do make sure that your magnets are pushed in all the way as leaving them sticking out a bit might causes your print head to run into the magnets! I made the tolerances a little bit looser so that you can get the magnets in even if your machine isn't perfectly calibrated.
• The second one prints fully with no pauses and leaves holes in the bottom of the file so that you can glue in some magnets after the print is finished. I would definitely use a tiny drop of glue for each magnets with this file as there is nothing stopping the magnets from sliding out other than friction, which might not be enough as I made the tolerances looser to support more printers.

If you are printing the model with captive magnets I would suggest using a smooth bed instead of a textured one unless you are really confident in your adhesion, simply because you will be applying some pressure on the model while fitting the magnets in and a smooth bed will be less likely to have your print detach while you are doing that. You can also use a brim for some extra support but I personally hate removing them :P

The magnets I used are 6x3mm (although I find all of the 3mm magnets I've ever bought actually measure 2.7mm or so) which I found at my local hardware store but I've also used these from Amazon. I've testing this funnel without magnets at all and it stick pretty well, but there is definitely a higher chance of it being knocked off during dosing without them.

I also added some very fine fuzzy skin to the upper ring just because it gives it a premium textured feel, helps when taking the funnel off, and just plain looked nicer in my testing. My fuzzy skin settings are below but feel free to experiment with your own:

• Fuzzy Skin Point Distance: 0.05 mm
• Fuzzy Skin Thickness: 0.1 mm

As far as printing settings, I pretty much used the default 0.2mm profile for both my Prusa, Bambu, and Anycubic machines and the prints came out flawlessly. I did draw on seams that wouldn't line up with the magnet holes as I found those would sometimes make the holes wonky but I found that using scarf seams looked pretty good and even the models with seams looked like a proper finished piece. The only settings I changed from default was make the top and bottom surface pattern Concentric instead of Monotonic Line, which I thought looked nicer, made the infill Adaptive Cubic for a little extra internal strength, and added the fuzzy skin I described above to just the flat ring at the very top. I will update this posting if I find any extra settings that help!

Update (06/10/2026): Added a no magnets version. It should fit well but won't stick to the portafilter, will just sit on top. You may have to hold it on while using.
