Description

LED Light Portable Stand

The goal?

To create a stand for a battery powered, rechargeable light that I can move around the house. Featuring it’s own base, without the need to clamp it on the edge of the desk. Something I can use for glueing, soldering, painting, repairing, assembling anywhere I decide to do it, no matter it will be my desk, kitchen table or the floor in living room.

I previously bought Ulanzi VIJIM VL81 – rechargeable video light in really compact and lightweight design for very affordable price. 3000MAh build-in battery, adjustable light intensity and temperature, shoe mount with ¼ thread at the bottom. I really recommend this one! Perfect for many applications so maybe I can use it as a light source for my lamp too?

Of course I can! All I need is few adjustable 3D printed arms and suitable base. As it’s not connected to the table, base need to be quite heavy to counterbalance the weight of the light and arms. I thought about some round, metal door stop as a cheap option, but what is the chance you’ll find same size as mine? Rather low so I came with different solution. The base is empty inside and acting as a container. Now you can use any heavy filler without the need for proper size door stop. Nuts, washers, screws, fishing weights or coins! I used the last one and the results are really good :)

You may use any light for shoe mount with this stand, not only the one mentioned above! Standard base is sufficient for any lightweight light, for heavier lights I added separate base in download section. This one has container section extended by 30mm, so filled in full will have a lot more weight.

How to print this model

Nothing special here. I recommend PETG as a go-to filament. Most of the parts do not require any supports, except tiny one for the shoe mount connector and for dummy screws (they are not required for the build and are here just for aesthetic purposes). Two walls and 10% infill for the arms and three walls with 15% infill for the base of the stand.

How to build this model

No glue or screws required. I this the build is self explanatory. Connect the arms using 3D printed nuts. Add “dummy” nuts on the opposite side. Fill the base with small and heavy items (coins, nuts, fishing weights, washers, etc.). Connect 3 parts of the base connector together and then screw it into the base. Connect the arms with the base. Add the light at the short arm using shoe mount. No special screw required. That’s it! Your light is ready to use :)

If you like the model and you want to give it thumbs up, please also consider downloading it. It cost you just one additional click and it’s very important to me. Also check my other models, maybe you will find something interesting. Boosts are always welcome :) Thank you!

Happy printing! :)
