Lazarim Careto Folk Mask - Authentic Portuguese Carnival Tradition

This is a highly detailed, printable model of a traditional folk mask from Lazarim, Portugal. Lazarim is home to one of Portugal's most ancient and authentic Carnival (Entrudo) celebrations, featuring the terrifying and playful "Caretos"—creatures that chase away evil and bring in the new year with their rústic, hand-carved alder wood masks and animal-pelt costumes.

This 3D printable mask is an homage to that rich cultural heritage. It captures the essence of the Caretos with its distinctive, long, tapered horns, the detailed patterned front-facing horns, the textured 'mustache' element, and the overall rustic, carved appearance.

Model Details:

This model is a high-resolution sculpt, designed to preserve the 'hand-carved' texture and detail required for a truly authentic look. It was printed in Natural PLA, which gives it a clean, ivory-like finish that accentuates the details, but it is also a perfect canvas for post-processing.

Printing and Finishing Guide:

Supports are Essential:

As seen in the included photos, tree supports are highly recommended for the long horns and the facial features. The model is designed to be printed with supports that break away cleanly, but take care with the delicate points.

Material:

PLA is excellent, especially matte, silk, or natural colors. A wood-filled PLA would create an exceptionally authentic look. For cosplaying, a tougher PLA or PETG might be preferred for durability.

Layer Height:

To preserve the intricate details and the 'carved' texture, we recommend a layer height between 0.1mm and 0.16mm. A standard 0.2mm is also viable but may require more sanding for a smooth finish.

Infill:

15-20% is suggested to provide good structure without excessive weight.

Post-Processing:

This model is designed to be sanded, primed, and painted. A wood stain effect can be achieved on wood-filled PLA, or a full antique paint job can be applied to standard PLA to simulate age and wear. The rustic nature of the masks means that imperfections can even add character.

Scaling:

The default scale is intended for display or larger face sizes. Check the dimensions and scale to fit your intended use.
