Description

Little Grocer | Barcode Scanner Expansion

Add another piece of the shopping experience to Little Grocer with this 3D printable barcode scanner!

Designed to complement the original Little Grocer grocery store playset, the scanner gives little shopkeepers another way to bring their pretend store to life. Groceries can now be picked from the shelves, brought to the register, and scanned before checkout for even more imaginative roleplay.

The scanner follows the same simple, sturdy and colorful design language as the original set and features a clickable trigger powered by an MX-style mechanical keyboard switch, giving the button a satisfying spring-loaded action.

This is the first expansion for Little Grocer, with more additions planned to continue growing the little shop over time!

Part of Little Grocer

The Barcode Scanner Expansion was designed specifically to accompany the original Little Grocer Grocery Store Pretend Playset.

It adds another interactive step to pretend shopping and checkout while keeping everything completely mechanical and easy to use. And this is only the beginning. More Little Grocer expansions are planned for the future!

Designed with Safety in Mind

Just like the original Little Grocer set, the scanner has been designed with children in mind. The shapes are kept simple, sturdy and comfortable for little hands, while very small separate components are kept to a minimum.

As with any toy containing smaller components, adult supervision is recommended, especially for younger children. Please use your own judgment regarding the suitability of the model for your child.

Assembly Recommendations

For additional durability and safety, I recommend permanently securing smaller components with a small amount of super glue or your preferred adhesive during assembly.

This helps prevent parts from coming loose during play and keeps the scanner sturdy through plenty of trips to the checkout!

Required Hardware

Just like the buttons on the original Little Grocer cash register, the scanner uses an MX-style mechanical keyboard switch to create a satisfying clickable trigger.

Hardware Required

• 1× MX-style mechanical keyboard switch

No soldering, wiring or electronics are required. The switch is used purely as a mechanical component to give the trigger its spring-loaded movement and satisfying click.

Printing Notes

All parts have been designed with ease of printing in mind and require little to no support material. The scanner is optimized for multicolor printing while maintaining the simple and robust geometry of the original Little Grocer set.

ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Glue both the top and bottom of the scanner to the grip
  2. Insert an mx-style keyboard switch of your liking into the grip
  3. Press the button unto the keyboard switch

I hope you and your little shopkeepers enjoy scanning their way through the next Little Grocer adventure!
