🧬 Medusa – Nexogum Series #2
Welcome back to the Nexogum project! This is the second release in my personal line of collectible figures inspired by the iconic 80s Exogini (M.U.S.C.L.E.) toys, reimagined with a modern, biomechanical twist.
Following Vite, I’m excited to introduce Medusa, the tactical alien warrior of the squad. With his unmistakable tentacle helmet and armored bio-mechanical suit, Medusa brings an imposing, sharp look to the collection while keeping that classic nostalgic toy vibe.
Just like with the first model, I teamed up with AI during the initial concept design phase before manually sculpting and refining the mesh. I specifically focused on keeping solid, well-defined volumes that maintain structural integrity and look stunning straight off the print bed.
🧪 A NEW APPROACH: TESTED IN PLA
While Vite was my first experiment with TPU, for this second iteration of Medusa I chose to test and print the physical model in PLA.
Printing in PLA allowed me to capture every crisp edge, the smooth curve of the helmet tentacles, and the fine chest armor plating with extreme sharp detail.
Material Freedom: While my test print is in rigid PLA, the choice of material is completely up to you!
- PLA: Perfect if you want crisp details, easy printing, fast speeds, and a sharp display piece.
- TPU (Shore 95A / 85A): Ideal if you want to stay true to the original "gummy" Exogini spirit and get a flexible, indestructible figure.
🛠️ Printing Tips
- Filament: PLA (used for the test print) or TPU (if you prefer a flexible figure).
- Layer Height: 0.16mm (recommended for smooth curves on the tentacle helmet and chest plate) or 0.20mm.
- Supports: Tree Supports are recommended under the chin and elbows. Set a generous top Z-distance for easy breakaway.
- Infill: 10–15% Gyroid or Grid is more than enough for a solid feel.
🚀 The Nexogum Project
Nexogum is a passion project bridging nostalgic 80s figure design, modern AI conceptualization, and desktop 3D printing. If you print Medusa, please share your Makes and post your print profile variations—whether you printed him in PLA, TPU, or Resin!
Your Likes, feedback, and photos help me keep designing the next characters in the series. Enjoy the print!
