Description

Nine Men's Morris is one of the oldest known board games, with origins dating back to ancient Egypt and Greece. It was widely popular in medieval Europe, often engraved on the floors of castles and in Roman ruins. The game has seen various forms and remains a classic of abstract strategy games.

The game is played on a grid of 24 points arranged in three concentric squares connected by lines, forming a board where players place and move pieces to create "mills" (lines of three pieces). The objective is to form mills and capture your opponent’s pieces, aiming to leave them with fewer than three pieces or unable to move.

Rules:

Setup: Each player has 9 pieces (traditionally black and white). The game is played in three stages: placing pieces, moving them, and capturing pieces.

Phase 1 – Placing Pieces: Players take turns placing their pieces on empty points on the board, one at a time. The goal is to position pieces strategically to create mills later.

Phase 2 – Moving Pieces: After all pieces are placed, players begin moving their pieces along the lines. A piece can only move to an adjacent point. The goal is to form a mill—three of your pieces in a row along one of the lines.

Capturing Pieces: When a player forms a mill, they can capture one of the opponent’s pieces. A captured piece is removed from the board.

Phase 3 – Flying (optional): Once a player is reduced to 3 pieces, they can "fly," meaning they can move their pieces to any empty point on the board, not just adjacent ones.

Winning the Game: A player wins when they reduce their opponent to two pieces, making them unable to move, or when the opponent is blocked and cannot make a legal move.
