Description

Code: YBTDSUWAFQ

A modular bedside clock combining 3D printing and woodworking.

The project allows you to easily customize both the clock face and the hands: they can be 3D printed or made from wood using the included DXF file, which can be freely modified.

Required Materials

  • 8 × 5 × 2.5 mm magnets — Purchase link (affiliate link)
  • Clock mechanism — Purchase link (affiliate link)
  • Wood (if you want to make the clock face and/or hands with a laser) — Purchase link (affiliate link)
  • Glue for attaching the LOVE letters — Purchase link (affiliate link)

The project is compatible with standard clock mechanisms, both with and without a wall-mount support. However, for safety, check the mechanism height with a caliper before printing. The mechanism compartment is 60 × 70 × 21 mm.

Assembly

The 8 magnets are used to secure the rear closing cover. Apply a small drop of glue and make sure to install the magnets with opposite polarity between the base and the cover.

The recesses on the cover are intentionally designed as guides for positioning and gluing the magnets. They are not designed as press-fit holes.

The LOVE lettering consists of separate pieces that must be glued into the dedicated recesses on the front of the clock base.

For the heart-shaped second hand, I recommend using the mounting pin from the original second hand supplied with the clock mechanism. Simply cut the pin from the original hand and glue it onto the heart-shaped second hand.

Mechanism Compatibility

The central mounting area is designed around the reference mechanism and features a 10 mm negative cylindrical recess with a 4 mm through-hole.

If you use a different mechanism, you can modify the diameter of the internal cylindrical recess (the negative section) to match the dimensions of your mechanism.

DXF File

The included SVG file allows you to create the clock face and hands in wood using a laser cutter/engraver. It can also be freely modified to create your own custom versions.

The model has been optimized for the use of supports where required, allowing the intended surface texture to be achieved correctly.

It is therefore recommended not to change the orientation of the individual objects on the build plates.
