Description
An alternative spool clip for when the clip you already use doesn't hold well on your spool wall. It is NOT a universal clip - it was designed for, and tested on, a specific range of spools (listed below). If your current clip already works, keep using it.
HOW IT WORKS
- A middle cap sits over the spool rim, with a toothed pad pressing on the inside of the wall.
- Two long, flexible wings run along the rim on the outside and press back in at their tips.
- Each wing tip hooks over the rim to a small inner pad, so both ends pinch the wall like an open V.
- The long wings give it spring travel, so it grips both thin and thick walls instead of being too tight on one and loose on the other.
- The body follows the curve of the rim and sits flush, so it stays slim on the outside (box friendly).
- The filament tail presses into a groove with staggered bumps on the inner side.
FITS
- Spool wall thickness 1.8 to 2.9 mm (tested on 2.0, 2.1 and 2.8 mm walls). It does NOT fit 3.2 mm walls.
- Standard 1 kg spools with a side wall about 200 mm across. The top curve is cut for that rim size.
- It needs about 14 mm of bare wall above the filament, so it won't fit a completely full spool.
- 1.75 mm filament.
WHAT TO EXPECT
- Holds firmly on textured spool walls.
- On very smooth walls it stays put while printing, but a firm push can slide it along the rim.
- On thick (2.8 mm) walls it takes a bit of a push to fit on, then sits snug and flush.
PRINTING
- PETG recommended (it flexes without cracking). Not tested in PLA.
- Print as provided: flat side down, no supports, no brim.
- 0.2 mm layers, 4 walls, 100% infill.
- The 3MF is set up for the Anycubic Kobra X with PETG. Use the STL for any other printer.
- Clean off any PETG strings around the grip pads before use.
INSTALLING
- Push the clip straight down over the spool rim.
- Press the filament tail down into the groove.
