The Keeper of the Last Door

An ornate skull watches over four curved hooks beneath a crown of Gothic arches and slender spires. Framed by roses, curling vines, and elaborate baroque ornamentation, this wall-mounted key holder brings a touch of dark fantasy to your entrance while keeping your everyday keys close at hand.

Long ago, a locksmith lived beside a cemetery whose gates opened by themselves each night. Whatever wandered out could enter any home whose key had been left unattended.

Determined to protect his neighbours, he forged four hooks beneath a carved skull and surrounded it with roses grown along the cemetery wall. Into each hook, he worked a promise: every key entrusted to its keeping would remember the hand that carried it—and every door it opened would refuse the things that followed.

For years, the villagers slept safely. Then, one winter morning, the locksmith’s workshop stood empty. His tools remained upon the bench, and a single fresh rose rested between the skull’s teeth.

The keeper still hangs beside the entrance, waiting for the familiar sound of keys returning home.

Sometimes, after the last key is hung, a fifth metallic chime can be heard.

The locksmith, they say, is locking the other side.
