Description

Toluene (C7H8, CAS 108-88-3) — a free educational 3D molecular model for teachers and students, by MolGod.org. Instead of colour coding, every sphere carries its engraved element symbol.

Look at the skeleton first: Toluene contains one aromatic 6-membered ring, and students can trace 15 bonds (9 single and 6 aromatic). Hand the model round and let students tally the engraved atoms: 7 C + 8 H, 15 in total. Zero hydrogen-bond donors or acceptors (computed) make it a clear contrast case for intermolecular forces. A good fit for lessons on aromaticity and delocalised electrons. Want a comparison? The most similar structures in the MolGod.org collection are o-xylene (CAS 95-47-6) and p-cresol (CAS 106-44-5).

MolGod.org shares these models for free to make chemistry tangible in the classroom. Teachers: print one per group and let students check the structure against the formula.

A ball-and-stick model of Toluene with each element symbol recessed into its atom sphere, generated by MolGod.org from a PubChem-computed 3D conformer (not an experimental crystal structure); atomic coordinates and connectivity are unchanged. STL mesh: 189,682 triangles, closed (watertight) single solid. Coordinates in ångström (STL stores no unit) — scale the model deliberately in your slicer.

Names in other languages: Toluol (de); toluène (fr); tolueen (nl); toluen (pl); 甲苯 (zh).
