Description
The Winged Victory of Samothrace, also known as the Nike of Samothrace, is an ancient Greek sculpture dating back to around 190 BCE. It represents the goddess Nike, the personification of victory, depicted with large, outstretched wings and a dynamic posture that suggests movement and triumph. The statue is renowned for its dramatic expression of motion and detailed drapery, which creates the illusion of wind and force. Originally part of a larger monument, the sculpture was discovered on the island of Samothrace in 1863 and is now displayed at the Louvre Museum in Paris. Its powerful form and emotional impact have made it one of the most celebrated masterpieces of classical art.
