Description

Important: the insert has to be glued in. Without glue it will not stay put. Push it into the slot until the shoulder sits flat on the deck, then bond it in place. Test the fit dry first, and only glue once you know it is the right width — this is not reversible.


If your clubs have been extended for your height, they stand higher out of the bag and the shafts no longer sit where the dividers hold them. There is play left over, the clubs shift while you walk, and the heads knock against each other. This insert fills that gap: the foot sits in the slot of the bag top, the shoulder rests on the deck, and the fin above takes the shaft in a groove so the club stops moving.

You have to check whether it fits your bag

Golf bags are not standardised, so there are three widths and it is on you to find out which one works. Nothing here is guaranteed to fit your bag. This is for bags with a moulded plastic top where there are narrow slots in the moulding, not for bags with soft fabric dividers.

Print golfbag_schiene_testplatte.stl first. It has all three on one plate, arranged 13, 14, 15 mm from left to right. Try each one in your bag, keep the widest that goes in, then print that single file as many times as you need. Keep them in order once they are off the bed, they only differ by 1 mm.

On my own bag the 15 mm version fits, and 15 was the widest I made. If yours is wider still, use the generator script to make a bigger one.

Total height 66 mm: 16 mm below the deck, 50 mm above it. 35 mm long at the deck.

Bottom half (in the slot): 16 mm deep, 35 mm long, slightly tapered so it threads in easily. Below the groove there is 4 mm of solid floor.

Top half (above the deck): the fin rises 50 mm and tapers from 35 mm long at the deck to 22 mm at the top, so it stays slim where the club head sits. Walls 1.4 mm at deck level, 2.0 mm at the top.

The groove is a U-shaped trough with a rounded floor, not a wedge. A wedge jams thin shafts halfway down; the trough lets them drop deeper and centres them by itself. The top edge is rounded so the club drops in one-handed.

Printing

About 9 g and just over an hour per insert in PLA. Stands upright as exported, no support. Use a brim. The part is 66 mm tall on a footprint of roughly 14 × 35 mm and will get knocked over without one. 0.2 mm layers, 3 perimeters, 25% infill. Test plate: about 27 g and roughly 3 hours.

PLA is fine, the part carries almost no load. Choose PETG if your bag lives in a hot car.

Adjusting it

golfbag_schiene.py is the generator. W is the slot width, STUB_D the depth below the deck, TOWER_H the height of the fin, LEN_BOT the slot length. Change any of them and re-run. Needs Python with trimesh, manifold3d and numpy.

Designed parametrically with AI assistance. Dimensions come from a real bag, not from an image generator.
