Pocket Stonehenge – For Lazy Druids

🎨 Painting Techniques

Here’s how to turn a plain white print into a mini monument straight out of Salisbury Plain:

Stones

• Gray base coat all over.
• Dry brush highlights with off-white to bring out the texture.
• Random blotches of beige, brown, and olive green for centuries of lichen, moss, and questionable bird activity.
• Dark wash (thinned black or brown paint) to sink into the cracks and add depth.

Grass

• Forget sawdust or DIY experiments. For grass that looks alive (but won’t need mowing):
• Grab a ready-made grass mat from model railroading supplies.
• Cut a neat circle for the inside of Stonehenge and trim the fibers shorter so they’re in scale.
• Around the outside, glue irregular scraps of the same mat with PVA glue for a natural, patchy look.
• Once dry, dab a bit of darker green or dry yellow paint in spots to simulate uneven growth.

The result? A lawn so realistic you’ll want to roll out a picnic blanket and sacrifice… I mean snack… right in the middle.
