Description

Umbrellas are the best way to stay dry on a rainy day, and their main downside is that one has to hold it. This model solves this by making your backpack hold your umbrella for you ! Also works with sticks or other long and thin objects

This is a system to attach your umbrella to a backpack. The system uses two jaws in a wedge motion to secure the umbrella: Put the stick in the jaws, press down firmly and voilร ! The device can hold any long object with a diameter between 8 and 18mm. This allows to release the umbrella in an instant. The device can be easily added and removed on a backpack thanks to its clip system.

The base device is print in place and works out of the printer, but optional TPU pads can be added for a more secure grip. No screws or other additional hardware required.

If you wish to adapt the model, see the about.txt file.

Printing:

Umbrella holder:

  • Choose the one based on your backpack. Best is to measure the thickness of your backpack straps with a caliper. Squeeze mildly as you measure to emulate the action of the clip system.
  • Print in PLA with a layer thickness of a least 0.2, the layer lines help hold the wedges in place.
  • Infill of at least 15%, cubic would be a good choice.
  • At least 3 perimeters.

TPU pads:

  • Make it squishy.
  • Layer height of 0.15
  • Only 2 top and bottom layers
  • 20% 3D honeycomb infill.
