The Star of Circlewood

At dusk, when the Sun of Circlewood leaves its last warmth upon the treetops, a golden star awakens above the forest. Roses bloom at its heart, pale branches climb along its five points, and tiny mushrooms shelter beneath its winding leaves.

Beside the roses stands a little white window with a balcony. No one in Circlewood has ever seen who lives behind it. Yet whenever a wanderer pauses beneath the trees, unsure which path leads home, a soft light appears at the window.

The light travels through the star’s delicate tracery and reaches a single rosebud. Far below, a mushroom beside the right turning begins to glow. Another lights up beside the stream, then another near the old wooden bridge. Step by gentle step, the forest reveals the way.

While the Moon of Circlewood tends to weary dreams and the Sun gives them courage to become beginnings, the Star watches over the journeys between them.

By morning, its little balcony falls quiet. Somewhere beneath the trees, a door has opened, a familiar voice has called a name, and another traveller has arrived home.
