Desk Tray with Magnetic Lid
This desk tray with magnetic lid is designed to keep small items organized, protected, and easy to access, while maintaining a compact and clean footprint on your desk. The integrated magnetic lid keeps the tray securely closed during transport or storage, making it ideal for everyday desk use or travel.
The tray is suitable for storing small objects such as:
- coins
- USB drives
- SD cards
- screws or small hardware
- earphones or adapters
The lid is secured using 6 neodymium magnets (4 × 1.5 mm), providing a satisfying snap while remaining easy to open and close.
For an improved user experience, I recommend gluing a soft material to the bottom of the tray (I used faux leather fabric). This helps reduce noise, prevents small items from sliding, and protects delicate objects from scratches.
Assembly notes
- Glue 6 neodymium magnets (4 × 1.5 mm) into the dedicated slots
- Pay attention to magnet polarity before gluing
- Optional: glue a soft lining (faux leather, felt, or foam) to the bottom for best results
