Kobra S1 Combo Flip Riser

Description

Introduction:

While there are some ACE Pro risers or flippers for Kobra S1 available here by now, I found most risers are bulky, go higher, and not permanently mounted to printer - not stable or safe since the printer does wobble while printing. And finally the real pain point is that it is not possible to use them together in all occasions. So I challenged myself at this time to design an integrated solution for Kobra S1 Combo to utilize the most needed functions together.

This model raises ACE Pro up about 4 cm from the top of a S1 printer. For ACE Pro flipping at least 17 cm space is required at the back of a printer. You will need just 350g of filament for all parts.

Update History

6/08/2025:

  • I have released my Build Plate & Top Panel Side Mount for this model. Click here for more detail.

6/22/2025:

  • For those who don't have an ACE Pro unit or have one but leave it separately from a S1 printer, You may find the riser only version here for download. The side rails are extended further to the back without ACE Pro foot rest.

6/23/2025:

  • I released my ACE Pro Hub Mount that will save print time. Click here to check it out.

6/24/2025:

  • For those of you who are concerned about ACE Pro tip over when flipping, I have added an updated version of flip support brackets as a separate 3mf profile. It has removable top that can be inserted after placing an ACE Pro unit. New photos for this update is available in the 3mf print profile.
  • Note that even with this improvement, there is always possibility of ACE Pro tip over. I recommend flipping ACE Pro backward gently and rest it onto the bracket with your hand as shown in my photo. If you use this model, it is at your own risk.

7/02/2025:

  • I released a new light bar that goes with this riser, click here to view the photos of better lighting at the print head.

Key Features:

  •  Slim Design: my minimal design not just saves material and printing time, but also requires less space on top and behind of your printer while providing all the functions below
  •  ACE Pro Flipping: for quick cleaning and maintenance, you can simply tilt ACE Pro unit backward to remove top cover and access from printer's top
  •  ACE Pro Removability: unlike others, ACE Pro is not permanently mounted to printer, which means you may mount and unmount the unit to/from your printer without any hassle
  • Top Panel Protection: ACE Pro will seat on top of this riser, not the top panel of S1 printer.
  •  Stable ACE Pro Feet: When you place ACE Pro away from printer, the foot brackets don't need to be removed. The feet support the unit to stand alone safely, unlike other models which have to stand with sharp edges.
  •  Top Panel Sliding and Tilting for Ventilation: this model support backward sliding or tilt up as preferred
  •  Raised Touchscreen: it is easier to remove the top panel and to do maintenance as the touchscreen can fold flat and is not in your way.
  •  LED Mounting: the LED mount is designed to illuminate downward to prevent glaring
  •  Accessory Attachment: the side rails allow you to attach printer accessories such as external spool holder, side panel, etc.
  •  Side Spool Mount: this model includes a folding side spool mount as example to encourage other attachment designs
  •  Secure Mounting: the riser and led brackets are permanently attached to the printer using screws to provide stable base for ACE Pro and side attachments
  •  Cable Management: added groove at the back left corner for LED strip power cable routing
  • Minimal Support Printing: this model is designed for easy printing without support. Flip support brackets are only parts that require support.
  • No Damage Assembly: unlike others, this model does not require any additional hole for attachment.

Printing Suggestion:

- My original 3mf profiles includes print settings that I tested and confirmed

- In the "all parts" print profile, all the needed parts are grouped into four different plates. Suggest open it from Anycubic Slicer Next to print all of them, not from Anycubic mobile app.

- PLA/PLA+ is recommended

- If you choose to use other materials such as PETG, make sure to account for shrinkage as it may not fit and not assemble/function properly

- Cleaning print bed and calibrating your printer/filament is encouraged if you found printing issues

Hardware for assembly:

ACE Pro foot brackets

  • M3 10 mm button head screw x 4
  • M3 12 mm button head screw x 2

Touchscreen Riser

  • M3 20 mm hex head cap (or button head) screws x 2

Flip Support

  • M3 10 mm hex head cap (or button head) screws x 4

LED holder

  • LED strip of your choice - I used 12 mm width one. You may use typical 10 mm wide strip as well.

- I used a "under cabinet led strip" that is not sold anymore. For your reference the link for similar one is here (not affiliated). You may search further from there. You will need to cut and solder for three corner connections to fit into your S1 printer as shown in my assembly guide.

- COB LED and L connectors from @dtp0004_4077567 - check his installation photos in Comments section.

- If you don't want soldering, any usual led strip such as this will work as well, but make sure to search for 90 degree corner bending tips such as below.
